“just”
One pesky little word we are choosing to reevaluate: “just”.
Have you found yourself using this word as a filler? Maybe to make the message sound more casual or to come across as humble. This is something I have recently identified a lot in my vocabulary. After further reflection, “just” is just one little word that is a culprit of undercutting my value. One tiny word that has a lot of power.
In emails, the word “just” can come across as “I’m sorry”. For example:
* I just wanted to _____
* I just thought _____
When describing what we do, instead of proudly announcing all of our achievements. Women especially are likely to humbly minimize their value. For example:
* I’m just a _____
* It’s just a _____
As you are writing your messages or speaking about your achievements, consider removing the word “just”. If it doesn’t add value (for example quantifying time) then go ahead and press DELETE.
You are more than “just” a stay at home mom, it’s bigger than “just” a side hustle, and you are adding more value than “just” checking in.
Join us in reclaiming our confidence and standing with our head high. Let’s “just” say it!
XO,
Morgan
